This lute was built by fellow luthier Paul Klemm in 2009. Paul lives close by and visits my shop often. He doesn't have a web site so I am listing it on my site and he would be happy to talk about the lute with you. Please see the conctact info at the bottom of the page.
It is built as a 7 course lute. All courses are double strung except the top string or chantrelle is single. Strings are nylon and nylon core wrapped in silverplated copper. Tuned to G (low to high) Ff Gg Cc ff aa dd g, it can be played much like a guitar.
The finish is french polish
with a wax finish on the top.
Englemann spruce is used
for the top or 'belly' and the internal bracing.
The bowl is constructed
from 11 ribs of cherry wood with ebony spacers.
Tradtional lute bridge with
tied on strings.
Ebony fingerboard and bone
nut.
Hand turned tuning pegs.
Cherry neck with traditional tied on gut frets.
Renaissance lute rose.
Hand made custom fitted
case.
